UNDP Ascertains its Strategic and Institutional Partnership with MSMEDA

CEO of MSMEDA Mr. Bassel Rahmy stressed keenness of MSMEDA on continuing cooperation with development partners to share experience and the best international practices on developing MSMEs in accordance with the directives of Egypt’s Prime Minister and Board Chairman of MSMEDA Dr. Mostafa Madbouly
Mr. Rahmy reiterated there is on-going cooperation between Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation to increase the network of MSMEDA development partners on the international level in order to upgrade its performance
“UNDP is a main strategic partner to MSMEDA since its inception. UNDP provides support and experience to MSMEDA to enable it to perform its role on developing MSMEs and take part in the efforts the State launches to attain sustainable development,” Rahmy said
CEO of MSMEDA gave these statements during a meeting with UNDP delegation held at MSMEDA premises. In the meeting, Rahmy emphasized MSMEDA’s eagerness to continue working with UNDP in the upcoming phase to support MSME sector in Egypt in alignment with the State’s vision on maximizing the participation of this sector in driving the national economy
During the meeting, Mr. Rahmy reviewed MSMEDA’s major accomplishments through joint cooperation on the national and institutional arenas, namely, in terms of digital transformation, job creation and innovation as well as expansion in financing MSMEs. He also revealed MSMEDA’s plans that hinge on supporting the business environment, forging more strategic partnerships with all entities engaged in activating Law on the Development of MSMEs 152/2020, boosting start-ups, encouraging financial inclusion, green economy and digital transformation

MSMEDA’s future vision
CEO in addition presented MSMEDA’s future vision to develop its plans and mechanisms as for upgrading MSME sector, together with last-year accomplishments on upgrading its services directed to youth and MSME sector at large. Mr. Rahmy also stressed MSMEDA’s expansion in financing human and community development projects thanks to the great role these projects play in creating such an environment that is favorable to the growth and flourishment of MSMEs
He pointed out to MSMEDA’s on-going efforts to activate Law 152/2020 and said that action is underway to legalize informal MSMEs to shift into the formal sector and obtain the Enterprise Classification/Privilege Certificates and have full access to the privileges and incentives the Law grants
- Rahmy added that MSMEDA pursues the Law activation process in close coordination with relevant ministries, authorities and agencies of the State
CEO also expressed appreciation as for the UNDP participation as a strategic partner in the last edition of “Turathna” Exhibition 2024. Such participation embodies the UNDP’s keenness on supporting the Egyptian Handicraft sector and promoting the Egyptian handicrafts inside productive clusters in remote governorates as well to reflect the unique Egyptian civilization

We believe the development of MSME sector is one of the most important milestones to foster economic growth, entrepreneurship and create sustainable jobs, while focusing on innovation, digitalization and green development
UNDP, moreover, seeks to provide technical support to MSMEDA to enable it to carry out its role in MSMEs development, augment their competitiveness and ensure their sustainability on the long term

Meanwhile, UNDP Egypt Assistant Resident Representative and Inclusive Growth and Innovation Team Leader Abeer Shakweer lauded MSMEDA achievements in 2024 together with its future vision to upgrade its development activities within the coming phase
She also praised UNDP-MSMEDA cooperation and its positive impact on creating the enabling business climate in Egypt. Ms. Shakweer, furthermore, emphasized the importance of creating an environmental ecosystem to support MSMEs through enhancing access to financial and non-financial services and creating an innovation-led environmental ecosystem for entrepreneurship
She also shed light on such sectors as green economy, digitalization and innovation being significant domains to focus on in order to forge ahead.
Within this context, Representative of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Advisor Sherif Rabie hailed efforts undertaken by MSMEDA to empower MSMEs and develop entrepreneurship through such significant period of institutional transformation in supporting MSME sector in Egypt aligning with the governmental orientations

He also stressed the MSMEDA pivotal role in rendering the Egyptian economy export-based and more competitive. The Foreign Ministry Representative expressed appreciation to the UNDP’s role in supporting such project and other projects as well on different sectors and taking all possible measures pursuant to cooperation frameworks established with the Government of Egypt to boost Egypt Vision 2030
