“Kaspersky Boosts Embedded Systems Protection Against Advanced Ransomware”

 KHADAMATY-NEW «

Kaspersky has announced a major update to its Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security (KESS) solution, aimed at strengthening protection for embedded devices such as ATMs, point-of-sale systems, and digital medical equipment against advanced ransomware and other cyber threats

Embedded devices are increasingly targeted by cybercriminals, as breaches can yield direct financial gains and provide access to highly sensitive data. In response to the growing sophistication and accessibility of cyberattack methods, Kaspersky’s update enhances behavioral analysis capabilities and multi-layered protection for legacy and low-power embedded systems

The new update includes key improvements such as automatic exploit prevention, an enhanced processing engine, and an upgraded anti-ransomware module. These subsystems work together to detect and mitigate sophisticated threats, including those designed to evade traditional static or statistical detection mechanisms

Among the notable features, the update introduces BadUSB attack prevention, blocking malicious USB devices that masquerade as human interface devices to execute unauthorized commands. Additionally, KESS now provides an application-level firewall, allowing organizations finer control over embedded applications’ network interactions, reducing exposure to unsafe or suspicious connections. The update also introduces a traffic-light security indicator, giving operations teams immediate visibility into a device’s security status and guidance on required actions

KESS is designed to operate efficiently on older or low-performance devices, in low-bandwidth environments, while minimizing cloud dependency. Its flexible threat protection approach allows organizations to balance security across both legacy and modern systems, seamlessly integrating with Kaspersky’s centralized management platform for consistent policies across diverse devices

Oleg Gorubets, Kaspersky cybersecurity expert, commented: “Embedded systems are no longer isolated from modern cyber threats. This updated KESS solution delivers smarter, stronger, and more flexible protection without imposing operational burdens, meeting the growing security needs of expanding embedded infrastructures
