Infinix: “Mobile Phone Governance System” Eliminated 99% of Smuggled Devices from Egypt’s Market

Infinix, a leading global smartphone brand focused on youth-driven innovation, has praised the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) for the successful implementation of Egypt’s Mobile Phone Governance System based on IMEI Lock, confirming that the system has eliminated nearly 99% of smuggled mobile devices from the local market

In a statement, Infinix described the IMEI-based governance system—launched at the beginning of 2025—as a transformational step in regulating Egypt’s mobile phone market, protecting the national industry, and restoring fair competition

From Market Chaos to Industry Stability

The company explained that for several years the Egyptian market had suffered from the widespread circulation of smuggled and non-compliant mobile phones, which at certain periods accounted for over 90% of devices in circulation. This situation negatively impacted local manufacturers, weakened industrial investments, and created an uneven playing field for companies operating legally in Egypt

According to Infinix, the enforcement of the IMEI Lock system has directly curbed device smuggling, resulting in a market where the vast majority of smartphones—approaching 99%—are now legally manufactured, locally assembled, or officially imported. This shift has significantly enhanced market stability and provided strong support to factories and assembly plants operating within Egypt

Boosting Investment and Local Manufacturing

Infinix highlighted that the mobile phone governance system goes beyond consumer protection, playing a vital role in improving the industrial investment climate. By safeguarding the rights of the state and ensuring product compliance, the system encourages global manufacturers to increase investments, expand local manufacturing capacity, raise local content ratios, and create direct and indirect job opportunities

The company also commended the high level of coordination among relevant government entities, describing the IMEI Lock implementation as a successful model of smart regulatory policy that balances market regulation, industrial growth, and consumer protection

Commitment to Egypt’s Digital and Industrial Vision

Concluding its statement, Infinix reaffirmed its commitment to continued expansion in the Egyptian market, supporting government efforts to deepen local manufacturing and contributing to the development of a strong, sustainable electronics industry. The company emphasized that these efforts align closely with Egypt’s broader vision for digital transformation and industrial development
