British Council Hosts National Workshop on AI in Education in Egypt

The British Council successfully organized a two-day national workshop on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching, learning, and educational supervision in Egypt, bringing together senior policymakers, international organizations, and 150 teachers and supervisors from across the country

The event was attended by Dr. Ahmed Daher, Deputy Minister of Education and Technical Education, UK Ambassador to Egypt Mark Bryson-Richardson, ministerial advisors, representatives from Al-Azhar, and leaders from public schools nationwide. The workshop provided a platform to align education policy, classroom practice, and emerging technologies, highlighting the growing role of AI in Egypt’s education system

Hala Ahmed, Head of English and School Education at the British Council, presented the organization’s global research on AI in education, which drew on a decade of literature reviews and a survey of 1,385 teachers from 118 countries. The findings sparked discussions on both the opportunities AI offers for teaching and learning and the responsibility required for its ethical and effective use

Mark Howard, British Council Director in Egypt, said:

“This workshop underscores the importance of equipping educators and policymakers to engage with AI in informed, practical, and evidence-based ways. By connecting policy with classroom practice, we ensure AI enhances teaching while maintaining professional judgment and educational quality

The programme included a panel discussion on AI’s impact in classrooms, featuring UNICEF, UNESCO, the Egyptian Federation for Boy Scouts and Guides, and school leaders. Key contributors included Jasmin Mohamed, Digital Learning Lead at UNICEF, Dr. Doaa Hazem, Education Project Officer at UNESCO, and George Michel, Media and Communication Volunteer Lead

Hands-on training sessions were delivered by educational technology consultant Joe Dale, covering lesson content reuse, transforming video materials into teaching resources, assessment design, personal AI development planning, and approaches for reflective and sustainable AI integration in schools

The workshop concluded with participants identifying actionable next steps for embedding AI responsibly into their professional contexts, demonstrating a strong readiness to adopt AI in ways that support high-quality teaching and improved student learning outcomes
